
Richard Harland Smith
Richard Harland Smith was born in Beckley, West Virginia, was raised in the swamps of New England, and has lived in New York City since 1986. His performed plays There Are No Runners Up in Russian Roulette, Common Ground, Los Besos, The Thing That Kills Me, Prelude to a Hit, Buscando Tu Corazon, Coup L'Aire, Down Cellar (Finalist, Samuel French Annual One-Act Competition), The Cue for Passion and In the Parlance (2001 OOBR Award, Best Play). For Lightning Strikes' Playboy Stories, he adapted and expanded upon Jack Kerouac's 1965 short story Good Blonde. RHS is the founder of Dashboard Theatre, which ran for 8 months at the West Bank Downstairs Theater and has also been performed at Catch A Rising Star and Surf Reality. He is the co-founder of Mutt Theatricals with documentary filmmaker Betsy Foldes and is currently a critic for Video Watchdog magazine. He is the author of two screenplays, Soft and Found on Road Dead and has recently adapted Nikolai Gogol's 1833 Ukranian tale The Viy as a stage play for Lightning Strikes.
Trivia: Richard recently married his long-time girlfriend Barbara in Las Vegas, where his father Richard and mother Barbara were married in 1954 ... strange but true!
